The first Malays to arrive at the Cape from the East came as political refugees and slaves during the mid-seventeenth century. Nearly two centuries later, at the time of the emancipation of slaves in the 1830's, these Islamic people, many of whom were good artisans, moved into the area known today as Bokaap. They built their mosques with picturesque minarets and their own style of Georgian houses, with a Dutch influence; simple single-storied dwellings with high stoeps, flat roofs and coloufully tinted plastered walls to give a special environmental urban character on the steep slopes of Signal Hill.

Accommodation :
Twenty-two On Rose is located in Rose Street, Bo-Kaap opposite Rouge On Rose in the colorful historic Malay Quarter of Cape Town in Bo-Kaap. It is only a five minute walk to the downtown area and the fashionable and trendy De Waterkant Village, and a short walking distance from the popular V&A Waterfront and CTICC. All rooms are En-suite with TV, safe, coffee and tea making facilities. We provide a laundry service if required and can arrange your transfers. English, German and French is spoken.

Directions on How to Get There
From Cape Town:
Leaving the N1 or N2 Motorway to Cape Town, exit at the waterfront/CTICC. Go straight on Buitengracht (M62, a very wide street leading off the motorway). Turn right at the fourth set of traffic lights onto strand street. Turn left at the second street which is Rose Street. Go up two streets to Hout. 22 On Rose can be found on the right corner of Hout and Rose.
