After Cape Town and Stellenbosch, Swellendam was the third settlement to be founded by the Dutch East India Company. The Drostdy was completed in 1747 and in the same year the new district was named Swellendam in honour of Governor Hendrik Swellengrebel and his wife Helena ten Damme. Swellendam is a busy centre of a thriving agricultural.

Description : Experience country living on a historic Cape Dutch estate built 1802, centrally situated in the historic heart of Swellendam. The guest house is owner managed, offering superb hospitality with great attention to detail, focussing on quality, comfort and style. Swellendam is the jewel of the Overberg and the 3 rd oldest settlement in South Africa situated halfway between Cape Town and the start of the Garden Route. Swellendam is renowned for its architecture, fascinating history, potters and great outdoor life i.e. Horse riding, Hiking, Canoeing.
Accommodation :
Three Luxury cottages (1 double), two garden suites and one family unit with classic contemporary decor, set in 1,5 hectares of luxuriant gardens with much indigenous flora and an abundance of bird life. Spacious guest areas in and around the historic house where one can relax and enjoy a drink in the lounge, on the patios or the veranda overlooking the gardens.

A memorable breakfast is given under the vines in summer and in front of the log fire in winter.
Cheese platters and a fine selection of local wines are offered -to enjoy in the comfort of your own room in front of a crackling fire or on your private patio -between November and April, for those who want to give a full on restaurant a miss.

Room 1 Protea: Spacious family suite. Main bedroom with queen-size bed leading into lounge area with fire place. Off the main bedroom a 2nd smaller bedroom with single bed. (an extra mattress can be added for 2 2nd child). Both have own entrance to shared spacious bathroom with Victorian bath and separate shower. Ocher floors and wooden ceiling. Room 2 Klapperbos:Bedroom with double bed, intimate bathroom with shower only, in National Monument. Yellow wood shutters and beams, handmade terracotta tiled floor, reed ceiling. Veranda in front of room overlooking the garden. This room is situated next to the breakfast area used in winter and bad weather. Music station. No TV and personal safe, View : Garden

Directions on How to Get There
From Cape Town : Take the first ( West) entrance into Swellendam. Enter Swellendam via the main street, Voortrek Street.
Drive along the main street, past all the shops. ± 3 km. then pass the famous NG white church on your left hand side.
± 100 metres further the road splits. Take the left fork for ± 30 metres. And turn left into Human Street. This is a dead-end street. Drive to the top and you will find parking on your left.
From George: Take the East entrance. You enter Swellendam via the first section of the main street, Swellengrebel Street.
The first building on your left is the Drostdy museum. Approx. 500mtr down, on your left a tea garden with the name " La Belle Alliance."
Over the small bridge, directly after that turn right, left and right again into Human Street. These 3 turns are all within approx. 30 metres of each other.
You will see the sign of Augusta de Mist at the top of this dead-end street. Turn left into the parking area.
