In 1657 Jan van Riebeeck was granted the farm where Green Point Common is today. In the eighteenth century the crowds were drawn to the common for two reasons. Gallows Hill Road at the northern boundary is a reminder that public hangings took place here and continued well into the nineteenth century; and we read of Lady Anne Barnard 'in a splendid vehicle drawn by eight Spanish stallions' arriving at South Africa's first ever race meeting held here in 1797. Toward the end of the nineteenth century boating regattas were held on the vlei that used to be there and the Common was used by the military for reviews.
Description: Avatara Guest House is a lovingly restored 1800's Victorian House situated in the soul of Green Point, steeped in character and surrounded by semi-detached homes in cobbled lanes.
All of our rooms are en-suite and exquisitely decorated echoing the charm of the original Victorian home. Our rooms also have flat screen tv's and wi-fi connection. Our rates include a delicious breakfast served by owner, who can offer assistance and information with airport transfers, car hire, restaurants, leisure and sport reservations.

All rooms were individually created to compliment the original Victorian home but we added a delightful zest to add to the stylish ambience. 300 count percale linen in crisp clean whites and fluffy big pillows are all laid out for your comfort.
Standard Room...with exquisite finishes, percale linen, comfortable bed (either Twin/King or Queen Sleigh), TV and en-suite private bathroom
Balcony Room...with new finishes, Queen sleigh bed, percale linen, TV, separate en-suite bathroom, heated towel rails and open balcony overlooking Signal Hill
Deluxe Room...which is a very large romantic room with wooden floors and Victorian fireplace, comfortable sleeper couch, small study, deluxe luxury bath, large shower and heated towel rails.
All of our rates include a delicious continental breakfast.

A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable on confirmation of the reservation and the balance is payable on arrival.

Directions on How to Get There
From the N1 or N2 highway go into town up Buitengracht Street. At Strand Street turn right towards Green Point and go straight up the hill. At the traffic light on the hill you will see the Stadium and at the next road, turn right into Cavalcade Road and road splits, take a left into York Road and AVATARA is on the immediate right, corner Leinster Road.
Activities and Attractions :
We are very conveniently situated - 2 minutes walk to the 2010 Stadium, 10 minute walk to the V&A Waterfront, Sea Point and De Waterkant's bistros, restaurants and nightlife. 5 - 10 minute drive to the city centre, Table Mountain, Clifton and Camps Bay beaches and a mere 45 minutes away from such scenic attractions as the winelands and Cape Point. Cape Town International airport is 20 minutes away.
