At the mouth of the Breede River, Witsand is accessible from the roads that lead off the national road (N2) from Buffeljagsrivier and from four kilometers west of Heidelberg. Witsand, right at the mouth of the estuary overlooking the bay of St Sebastian, is a fine fishing area with wide, white beaches. On the estuary and up-river for a considerable distance conditions are ideal for power boats. Witsand is a popular holiday stay. Description :

Relaxing and tranquil walks. Excellent kite and windsurfing. Breede River offers very good fishing. Lovely swimming beach.
River cruises can be arranged. Excellent whale watching. Hear them while lying in bed. One minute walk to beach. Very good birdwatching. 4x4 trails and ostrich farm tours can be arranged. Small boat to hire if you prefer to cruise the river by yourself. Some views of the sea
Directions on How to Get There
Take n2 from Cape Town. Three kilometers before Heidelberg take the Witsand Port Beaufort turn off to right. Travel 34km. On entering Witsand get four way stop with Whalers Grill on right. Turn left at 4way stop and carry on about 3km until you come to a parking area right on the beach. Follow the road through the parking area. When houses start again we are the seventh house on the left hand side. Will see the Barnacles sign on rockery. Alternate route from Cape Town via Worcester, Robertson, Ashton and to Swellendam. Turn left onto N2 at Swellendam and take the Witsand turnoff 3km from Heidelberg
