Saldanha Bay was originally applied to present-day Table Bay, after the Portuguese admiral, Antonio de Saldanha, who anchored his fleet there in 1503. it kept the name for nearly a century until, in 1601, the Dutch renamed it Table Bay and in some navigational error, the name Saldanha Bay was applied to its present position. Had it not been for the lack of drinking water, Saldanha may have superceded Cape Town in its importance, Saldanha Bay being far better sheltered and a good deal larger than Table Bay

Take the R27 from Cape Town along the West Coast.
Travel 6 kilometres past the Langebaan turn-off, take a left turn at the Saldanha turn-off.
Drive past Saldanha Steel and the Saldanha Airport.
Cross over the Vredenburg-Saldanha road and continue straight on to Jacobsbaai.
Once in Jacobsbaai, turn first road left, carry on over two stop streets.
Turn right into Mauritz Road, carry on and turn right into Baviaantjie Bend

Activities and Attractions :
Jacobsbaai is a fisherman's haven with the azure Atlantic Ocean providing an abundance of seafood like crayfish, hottentot, galjoen, white steenbras and black mussels. You will find fresh crayfish in season, normally from November to January. Visit the fishing boats on the beach as they arrive back with their morning's catch.
The area offers spectacular hiking along the scenic coastline. Nature walks, bird watching and the multiflower extravaganza during spring are all part of the West Coast experience. When the wanderlust sets in, the 17km hiking trail between Swartriet and Tietiesbaai, is a good option to satisfy your curiosity of the equally gorgeous surrounding bays.
Golf, sailing, deep-sea fishing, underwater diving, horse riding, organised boat trips and romantic sunset cruises can be arranged. Other activities in the area include windsurfing, sailing and canoeing.
