Bredasdorp was founded on the farm Langefontein in 1838, by the Hon. Michiel van Breda, who was the first mayor of Cape Town and a member of the Cape Legislative Council. The old farm homestead together with the old Independent Church alongside, are both national monuments and both buildings today house a unique and fascinating collection of shipwreck memorabilia. The Shipwreck Museum in Bredasdorp, tells the tale of the fate of many a soul who encountered the ocean.
Description : Bergen Dam Cottage used to be a farm workers residence which has recently been given a new lease of life with some renovations. The self-catering cottage is situated on the foothills of 'Soetmuisberg' just outside Bredasdorp. The cottage has no electricity and relies on paraffin lamps and candles for lighting and a wood fired 'donkey' for hot water. The cottage has a rustically luxurious feel to it.
Enjoy the lapa with fireplace or relax on the deck and take in the spectacular views of the mountain, irrigation dam and far off farming activities. Indoor fireplace / indoor braai in the living area
Accommodation : The accommodation comprises a living area / kitchen which is fully equipped with gas stove/oven and fridge/freezer. There are two bedrooms which can accommodate six people. In room 1 there is a double bed and a double bunk and in room 2 there is a double bed. Both bedrooms are served by a common bathroom with toilet, basin and shower. Linen and towels are provided. Please bring your own swimming towels.

A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable on confirmation of the reservation and the balance is payable to your host on arrival.

Directions on How to Get There
Leave Bredasdorp on the road to Struisbaai. After four kilometers turn right at the Elim/Die Dam/Gansbaai turn off. Drive for another four kilometers to the 'Grashoek' sign. Turn right and follow the gravel road for nine kilometers to the 'Grashoek' farmhouse. We are seventeen kilometers from Bredasdorp.

We are 28 km from the southernmost tip of Africa and on completion of the tar road will be about 45 minutes from Gansbaai and surrounding area.
Pay a visit to nearby Elim and the budding new wine route.
