BERG EN ZEE GUESTHOUSE

Type : Guesthouse Accommodation
Grading : Tourism Grading Council of South Africa - Four stars.
Location : Gordon's Bay
This enchanting little resort, six kilometres south-east of Strand, lies in a protected cove at the base of the Hottentots-Holland Mountains. Colonel Robert Jacob Gordon of the Dutch East India Company, a traveller of some note, gave his name to the place when he explored the coastline in 1778. The sheltered harbour is well-constructed with two moles and provides anchorage for pleasure and fishing craft. Once the training college for merchant officers of the famed General Botha - now moved to Granger Bay, the facilities are used by the Naval Academy. Although a little rocky, the beach shelves gently and bathing is safe at Gordon's Bay where sea temperatures average 23 degrees centigrade in the summer months.
Description : Berg en Zee is in the heart of the picturesque "old village" section of lovely Gordon's Bay. The beach is just a few steps away across the road and there are several excellent restaurants within a few minutes' walking distance. The guesthouse itself is tastefully decorated in the Cape Dutch style. Owners, Jackie and Glenn, are always on hand to help plan day trips or even to take guests on tours or hiking trails.
Berg en Zee has a very homely atmosphere with several sitting rooms and places to gather. Breakfast is served in the wooden-floored dining room with lovely sea and mountain views. The reception areas on both floors are comfortable sitting areas and the main reception offers a PC with internet, free of charge to guests.
On the first floor the "Wine Cellar" is a wonderful space to gather and watch DVD's, play board games, read something from our library, select a drink and a meal from our "honesty bar".
There is plenty of off-road parking available for guests and a garage is available for trailers and motorbikes.
