Although the national road divides Wilderness it has done nothing to spoil its profound beauty, in fact if anything the separation of the eight kilometre long beach from the village fringing the lagoon produces a special charm and the road provides accessibility to view sites to take in the scenic delights. At Wilderness the Touws River forms a lagoon from where boats can be taken upstream for sixteen kilometres leading to the lakes and Ebb and Flow Nature Reserve, a sanctuary of woodland streams, waterfalls and prolific bird life.

Description : Hugging the Outeniqua mountainside amid a beautiful stretch of indigenous forest, and located at the heart of the world-famous Garden Route, the Boardwalk Lodge is a distinctive self-catering and bed & breakfast leisure resort. Picture-perfect views and natural forest vegetation provide the setting for the ultimate in privacy and intimacy, and immerse the senses in tropical sights, sounds and aromas.
The Boardwalk Lodge heralds a pioneering concept in luxury resort leisure, featuring contemporary Knysna timber architecture, characterised by spaciousness, warmth and understated luxury.
Located within the Wilderness National Park Conservancy, and a short stroll from the beach, lake and village, the Boardwalk design and exclusive features and facilities respond to the unsurpassed location and climate to provide the ultimate Wilderness experience.
Accommodation: There are 15 units catering for up to 36 people.
Luxury Room (Sea-Facing)
Afro-contemporary style, luxurious bedrooms facing the sea and the village of Wilderness. Each has a private deck and private entrance. Studio Suite (Sea-Facing)
With its own private entrance, this luxurious suite is equipped with modern conveniences. Facing the sea and the village of Wilderness. Facilities include: Luxurious double bed ~ Tea & Coffee facilities ~ Equipped kitchenette ~ Satellite television ~ Bathroom with massage bath and massage shower ~ Air-conditioning ~ Gas BBQ Grill ~ Viewing deck with chairs & table, facing sea, village and lake ~ Telephone ~ Valuables safe facility in reception office ~ Access to guest house lounge and fireplace areas ~ Access to the lodge swimming pool ~ Breakfast is served in the guest house dining room
Superior Simplex Units (Timber Structures) - Sleeps maximum 4 persons
Situated on the mountainside with spectacular views of the village, lake and ocean. These suites are very private and are popular with couples (esp. honeymooners). Due to the location of the suites, there are approximately 130 to 140 steps to climb up the boardwalk from the parking area. A porterage service is provided and the view is worth the climb.

Superior Duplex Units (Timber Structures) - Sleeps between 4 and 6 persons
Also situated on the mountainside with spectacular views of the village, lake and ocean. These suites are private and are popular groups and families. These units have two main levels, with a mezzanine sitting room. Depending on the location of each suite, there may be between 10 to 120 steps to climb up the boardwalk from the parking area. Duplex suites may be taken as a 1- or 2-bedroom unit.

Directions from George Airport
Upon exiting the George Airport, take a right turn at the T-junction and follow the directional signs that lead to the N2 Highway.
Turn left onto the N2 Highway towards Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The N2 Highway passes the city of George on your left hand-side, and after the Sandkraal Road turnoff, it joins up with the Knysna Road from the George City Centre. Keep following the N2 as it winds its way through the Wilderness Pass. An indicator of the start of Wilderness Pass is the Far Hills Hotel entrance on your left. Please be especially careful to follow the speed limits on the pass, as there are at least two speed cameras as you travel into Wilderness.
As you enter the town of Wilderness, you'll spot a Caltex Fueling Station on your left. Turn left into George Road at the Caltex Station. Continue along George Road as it passes through the village and the Protea Resort Hotel on your left.
At the T-Junction with Waterside Road, turn left. Then take the second road right, into Constantia Kloof Road. A short distance up the road, you'll see a large Boardwalk Lodge sign on your right. Turn right into Young Terrace at the sign. Follow the driveway up, past the yellow house on your right. Continue up the driveway until you see a sign that indicates the Boardwalk Lodge Reception. Welcome to the Boardwalk Lodge.
Directions from Cape Town
Follow the N2 National Highway out of Cape Town. The drive to Wilderness should take you approximately 4½ to 5 hours. The speed limit between major towns is 120km per hour, but be aware of speed cameras and traffic enforcement on the borders of most towns. En-route to Wilderness, you will pass major towns such as Somerset West, Riviersonderend, Swellendam, Riversdale, Mossel Bay and George. Ideal petrol stops, if required, are at Mossel Bay or Great Brak.
The N2 Highway passes the city of George on your left hand-side, and after the Sandkraal Road turnoff, it joins up with the Knysna Road from the George City Centre. En-route to Wilderness, you will pass major towns such as Humansdorp, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Sedgfield. An ideal petrol stop, if required, is at Plettenberg Bay.
The N2 Highway passes through the towns of Knsyna and Sedgefield. Follow the N2 as it winds its way from Sedgefield to Wilderness. An indicator of the start of Wilderness is the Wilderness Beach Hotel on your right. Please be especially careful to follow the speed limits on the pass as there is at least one speed camera as you travel through Wilderness.
As you travel through Wilderness, you'll spot a Caltex Gas/Petrol Station on your right hand-side. Turn right into George Road at the Caltex Station. Continue along George Road as it passes through the village and past the Protea Hotel on your left. At the T-Junction with Waterside Road, turn left. Then turn right into Constantia Kloof Road.
