Bokwagtershuis is a fully equipped self catering holiday home, situated in Matjiesvlei (Matjies Valley), at the foothills of the Swartberg Mountain Range, only 16km from Calitzdorp. The cottage sleeps 4 people comfortably. The spectacular mountain views along with the mixed farming activities of the valley provide a tranquil atmosphere. The hustle and bustle of city life melt away - the perfect place to relax and unwind.
The "Bokwagtershuis", (Goatkeeper's house), was originally built during the 19th century as accommodation for Matjiesvlei's goat keeper. His task was to tend to all the goats of the different farmers in the valley. The house has been authentically restored to maintain its atmosphere, with the addition of modern amenities.
Accommodation:
Bokwagtershuis is a spacious 2 bedroom self-catering cottage in rural Matjiesvlei (Matjies Valley), just outside Calitzdorp on Scenic Route 62. For the perfect way to unwind, this restored historical Klein Karoo cottage is the ideal choice.
Facilities: The kitchen is equipped with the necessary basic utensils to make your stay a relaxing one. Cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer and stove also provided. The bathroom is equipped with a shower, bath, basin and toilet. There is a very nice stoep overlooking the veld. There is a built in braai on the stoep, with a stove-fireplace in the lounge. High quality linen is priovided, as well as towels.
Tariff: Per unit per day
ZAR480 per day for 1 or 2 people, and ZAR120 per person per day for the 3rd and 4th people.

A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable on confirmation of the reservation and the balance is payable three days prior to arrival.

Attractions and Activities:
Calitzdorp, South Africa's Port Capital is on the R62 Scenic Route, halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. It is nestled in the heart of the Klein Karoo, or Kannaland as it is better known, 50km from Oudtshoorn, 110km from George and 380km from Cape Town. Things to do in Matjiesvlei:
* Fly-fishing in the Gamka River.
* Walking in the valley and veld.
* Mountain biking on valley roads.
* Bird watching.
* Swimming and paddling on the river.
* No quad bikes or jet skis are allowed.
Directions:
* To get there, you travel on the R62.
* Coming from Ladismith, the turnoff to Matjiesvlei is 40km from Ladismith.
* Coming from Oudtshoorn through Calitzdorp, the turnoff to Matjiesvlei is 10km from Calitzdorp.
* The turnoff is clearly marked.
* Once on the gravel road, you carry on for 7km untill you get to a T-junction.
* Bokwagtershuis, turn right at the T-junction.
* Continue for about 600m. You will see the Bokwagtershuis sign on the fence on your left.
* Use the gate to the right of the sign.
