The fishermen's cottages roofed with straw gave Struisbaai its name. Three of these cottages have been restored and serve as a reminder of a time gone by. The handsome bay has been formed by an eleven kilometer curve in the coastline where fishermen, bathers and sun-seekers are attracted. Each year in mid-summer the Trans Agulhas boat race takes place and draws large crowds of excited spectators. Another event which takes place annually and also attracts large crowds is the Struisbaai Geelstertfees.

Four hundred metres from the longest beach in the Southern Hemisphere is Cape Agulhas Backpackers. the most southern backpackers in Africa. If you want to chill out for a couple of days, this is definitely the place to do it.
Start your day with a free cereal breakfast, tea or coffee. Relax in the garden on a hammock; revitalize in the swimming pool, or enjoy a real South African braai next to the bar. We have a TV lounge with DVDs, games and a pool table.

Rent a sea kayak to explore the bay or rent a bicycle and head down to the most southern tip of Africa where the two oceans meet. Join in on our sunset boat cruise; then end your day snuggled under a goose down duvet with the sound of the ocean in your ears.
Accommodation : Inspired by our colourfull boats in our picture perfect harbour, each room has adopted a unique name of the fishing boats also known as 'chukkies'.
All rooms are provided with 100% hyper-allergenic goose down duvets, and feather pillows, and a clean towel. Agulhas is an eight bed dormitory with a shared bathroom. Seabreeze is a six bed dormitory with a shared bathroom. Melody is a double bedroom with double bed and a shared bathroom. Albatross has four single beds and a shared bathroom. Renata is a double bedroom with double bed and a shared bathroom. Potberg is a double bedroom with double bed and a shared bathroom.
The above rooms all have access to a fully equipped self-catering kitchen. Weltevrede has two single beds, a separate entrance, balcony, kitchenette and en-suite bathroom - sea views. Stella has two single beds, a separate entrance, balcony, kitchenette and en-suite bathroom - sea views. Directions on How to Get There
200km from Cape Town. Take the N2 to Caledon. From Caledon take the R316 through Napier and Bredasdorp. In Bredasdorp travel down Long Street until you reach the police station. Turn right and travel to Struisbaai. In Struisbaai we are at the first stop sign on the right hand side of the road.
