Description : De Volkshuijs is a national monument consisting of two free standing thatched cottages called Sakkie (circa 1780) and Saartjie (circa 1850). Built with raw clay bricks and plastered with ant heap soil, these white washed cottages are restored with
sensitivity. They tell the storey of humble dwellings where farm workers worked and lived. For travellers they offer the ideal comfortable base from where to explore Bredasdorp and its surroundings. For business guests De Volkshuijs offers convenient self-catering, privacy and a relaxing stay. Parking is secure and guests can unwind al fresco style at the traditional braai.

Unit Description:
The kitchens of both Sakkie and Saartjie are equipped with a stove, refrigerator
and a microwave oven for easy self-catering. The living areas are tastefully
furnished with a dining table, two single beds and a television with local channels.
Sakkie's spacious bedroom has a double bed and a corner table with two chairs
for the comfort of guests. Sakkie's bathroom has a bath and a shower. Saartjie's bedroom
is furnished with a double bed under a sheer canopy and the en-suite bathroom
has a shower. Both cottages are provided with white linen and towels to make
guests feel at home.
Facilities :
Apart from both cottages having private entrances, each courtyard provides secure
parking for peace of mind as well as a traditional braai facility. Here guests can
unwind under the vineyard covered pergola with cobble stones at their feet.
De Volkshuijs is conveniently situated within walking distance from town and is only a hour’s drive from Hermanus.

Travel to Bredasdorp from Cape Town via Caledon. On arriving in Bredasdorp turn right into Kloof Street. Proceed to Lourens Street. Situated on the corner of Kloof and Lourens Street is De Volkshuijs
Activities and Attractions :
Situated within walking distance from town, De Volkshuijs is the ideal base from
where to explore Bredasdorp on foot. Visit the Shipwreck Museum, Bredasdorp
Square, Julian's ceramic gallery and Kapula Candles just out of town. Within 50km
from De Volkshuijs there are fascinating opportunities for hiking, cycling, whale
wathing, fishing and photography. Be sure not to miss Arniston, the harbour at
Struisbaai, the light house at L'Agulhas and the most southern tip of Africa.
