FOUNTAIN PLACE GUEST HOUSE

Type : Guest House Accommodation
Grading : Three stars : Tourism Grading Council of South Africa AA Travel Guides - Highly Recommended
Location : McGregor
The little town of McGregor, 20 kilometres south-east of Robertson, has a Scottish flavour, lying as it does in the foothills of the Langeberg. It was first called Lady Grey when it was founded in 1861 and because of the confusion with the Eastern Cape town, in 1906 it took the name of the Dutch Reformed Church minister, Andrew McGregor, one of the Scots clergy who played such an important role in the formation of the Afrikaans church. McGregor is noted for fruit, grapes and whip handles. Nearby Boesmanskloof is a place of scenic beauty.
Description : Recently featured in top UK travel magazine - Living Abroad - and in the March 2009 issue of Country Life (SA). Situated in the unique village of McGregor, Fountain Place is housed in one of the oldest buildings there. Built in 1862 and classed as a National Monument, this traditionally white-washed and thatched building exudes a sense of warmth, friendship and history, along with its reed ceilings and painted bedroom floors. Tastefully decorated and furnished with many antique pieces and interesting object d'art, whilst still remaining welcoming and comfortable.
For those of you with young families, or those who simply like to “do your own thing”!!, there is a further option - two self catering cottages, situated only 5 minutes walk from the guest house. These are charming and self contained, with a relaxed and casual atmosphere. Pets are welcome and families with young children will be able to relax whilst the children have the freedom to run around.

Directions on How to Get There
Take the N1 to Worcester. From there, head for Robertson. Enter Robertson on Voortrekker Street and the turning for McGregor is on the right, just opposite the Tourist Information. When you come into the village, you pass McGregor Country Cottages on your right, then soon after that you will see a sign for Fountain Place on the right hand side. Take the next right (Barry Street) directly after that, and we are at the end of Barry Street on the left.
Alternatively, take the N2 towards Caledon and take the turn-off to Stormsvlei. Then turn left at the Bonnievale Kelder and you will pass many wineries e.g. Van Loveren and Springfield. Once you go over the "red bridge", turn left towards Robertson. At the circle, take the first exit towards Robertson. You will then come to the turn-off for McGregor on your left (opposite the Robertson Tourist Information on your right). The rest of the instructions are as before.
Activities and Attractions :
Wine tasting - McGregor lies on the longest wine route in the world, with several boutique wine farms.
The biking and walking trails offer breathtaking views & bird-watching opportunities - we are surrounded by Nature Reserves and the Bosmanskloof trail to Greyton is also very popular.
4 x 4 trail (Groot Toren),
Arts and crafts (we have two art galleries and a pottery) Alternative healing (massage etc.).
There's something about the air of McGregor which instantly release stress, whilst also re-charging tired batteries. With many and varied places to satisfy your spirit and your stomach, you will never need (or want) to leave the village.
