The town of Montagu lies in the valley of the Langeberg range where the Boland, the Little Karoo and the south western districts meet. Montagu boasts outstanding scenery, tonic climate, mineral springs and sporting facilities which attract large numbers of holiday makers especially in the winter months. Montagu was founded in 1851. Montagu Museum has an interesting local history section. There are a number of attractive old buildings in Montagu, several of which are national monuments.

Set in the picturesque village of Montagu on the scenic Route 62, Four Oaks Guest House and Templeton's Restaurant is housed in a National Monument dating back to 1855.
Accommodation : The thatch roofed building offers 4 luxury en-suite rooms with air-conditioning, satellite TV, DVD players and private entrances, all leading onto a courtyard which is shaded by two 100-year old pear trees. There are four bedrooms accommodating eight people.

Directions on How to Get There
From Cape Town take to N1 towards Worcester.
From Worcester take the R60 towards Robertson.
Follow the R60 through Robertson and Ashton.
After Ashton the R60 becomes the R62 towards Montagu
Montagu is the first town on the R62 and about 7km from Ashton.
As you enter Montagu , you will drive along Long Street.
The Four Oaks and Templeton's Restaurant are on the right hand side no 46. Long Street.
Signboards will indicate the Guesthouse and Restaurant.

Wine is one of our best-kept secrets - you will find over 45 different cellars offering some of the finest wines money can buy. We pride ourselves on being unpretentious - so, you'll actually find us encouraging you to enjoy your tasting and not spit out the fruits of our labours.... You could even go on the new and fast growing Route 62 Wine Tours, so no need to drive after the winetasting!
There are also really picturesque river boat cruises on the Breede River such as The River Goose and Viljoensdrift and more than one tractor trip to take you up into the mountains for the most scenic views and best experience of your life! Scenic Walks And Outdoor Activities
There are many scenic walks, nature trails and mountain hikes in and around Montagu. The healing waters of our magical hot springs have kept us famous for well over 150 years. Today you won't have to cross the river eight times in an ox-wagon to get through Cogman's Kloof to be able to experience them!
For the outdoor enthusiasts, we have some of the best rock-climbing the country has to offer, great mountain biking, scenic hikes and fantastic trails. Go batty at Guano Caves, check out the many bird species - without having to leave the centre of the Village - and if you are after the Big Five, well, we have some of the finest Game Farms nearby.
When night falls, enjoy the stars with a glass of our famous muscadel, or a decadent dinner at one of our fine restaurants.
