Directions on How to Get There
From Cape Town on the N2 approximately 220 km. Take the first possibility to Swellendam. At the big 4-way Stop, turn right into the ma inroad of Swellendam (Voortrek). After approximately 2 km, we are on your left, opposite the Olyfberg Supermarket.
Attractions and Activities:
Nestling at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, Swellendam has much to offer visitors who have an interest in history, nature and outdoor activities. Situated on the N2, approximately 240km from both Cape Town and George, Swellendam is the perfect choice for a halfway stopover or a base from which to explore the area. The town-centre of Swellendam has much to offer: lovely historical buildings, excellent restaurants, shops, and arts & crafts projects.
Golf players will appreciate the 9-hole golf course in Swellendam with its inspiring view of the Langeberg. The green fees are low, and the course is much less crowded than Cape Town's courses. There are also tennis, squash and bowls facilities.
Raft on the Buffeljachts Dam or canoe on the beautiful Breede River. Hike through the Marloth Nature Reserve. Follow one of the scenic mountain bike trails along the foothills of the mountains (swimming opportunities along the way) or through the nearby Bontebok National Park. Take a leisurely horse ride through the local forestry roads at the foot of the mountains. Our local horse riding guides are among the most professional and experienced in the country, and will find a suitable horse for any skill level.
Swellendam has drawn a number of creative people who find inspiration in the beauty of the town and surrounding area. Foremost among them are four potters, all highly accomplished artists with studios open to the public. They are interesting and entertaining locals who will go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Sulina's Faerie Sanctuary draws people from all over the country. Marvel at the faerie displays indoors or in the flourishing garden with its mini-jungle of indigenous trees, plants and herbs (many with healing properties). Indulge in some liqueur tasting at Wildebraam Liqueurs, just 3km out of town, or visit the self-contained hamlet of Stormsvlei, where you can shop at Country Flowers.
Your friendly hosts at The Mint Cottages are always available to offer you more information on any of Swellendam's activities and places to see.
