After Cape Town and Stellenbosch, Swellendam was the third settlement to be founded by the Dutch East India Company. The Drostdy was completed in 1747 and in the same year the new district was named Swellendam in honour of Governor Hendrik Swellengrebel and his wife Helena ten Damme. Swellendam is a busy centre of a thriving agricultural region.
Description :
The apartment consists of a double main bedroom and a single bedroom, which has one single bed. An extra single bed can be put up in the lounge area. The spacious lounge, dining and kitchen area is open plan. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, two plate stove with small oven, fridge, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Bed linen and towels are supplied. The comfortable dining and lounge area is furnished with cane furniture and has a TV. There is a portable barbecue facility. Safe parking.
From the veranda of this self-catering apartment, one overlooks our small developing orchard, the town of Swellendam, farmland and the Langeberg Mountains.

Accommodation : Mountain View Lodge can accommodate three guests in a double bedroom and a single room. A fourth can be accommodated in lounge if prior notification is given.

Swellendam is situated on the N2, 220km from Cape Town and 220km from George.
Approaching from Cape Town:
Turn left off the N2 at the 4th Swellendam exit - SWELLENDAM EAST - into Swellengrebel Street. Take the first turn left into Drostdy Street. The Drostdy Museum is on the left corner. Continue up Drostdy Street for one and a half blocks. Mountain View Cottage is clearly visible, on the right, on the crest of the hill. No 37 Drostdy Street, opposite the entrance to the Swellendam Hospital.

Approaching from Ashton on the R60:
At the four way Stop on Voortrek Street, turn left. Follow this road for 3km. Past Spar on the left and Information on the right. Opposite the Large White Church, turn right into Church Street. At a four way Stop (the third street on the right) turn right into Drostdy Street. Half a block along, Mountain View Cottage is clearly visible on the right, on the crest of the hill. No 37 Drostdy Street, opposite the entrance to the Swellendam Hospital.
Activities and Attractions :
Being on the same property as Mountain View Cottage it shares the indigenous garden.
Within easy walking distance are a selection of restaurants and coffee shops, the Drostdy Museum, Groote Kerk, Sulina Fairae Sanctuary, Pottery studio and Art Galleries.
On our doorstep is Marloth Nature Reserve with three dams, one of which you can swim in, Bontebok National Park, Air Field, Buffeljagsriver Dam with water sport and the Tradouws Pass.
Within easy driving distance is Malagas which has the only hand drawn pont left in the country. Cape Agulhas, Africa's southern most tip. De Hoop Nature Reserve, Witsand beach and Robertson wine route.
