Stanford
This picturesque little hamlet lies on the coastal side of the Hagelsburg Pass. The town was named in honour of Captain Robert Stanford (British Army), on whose farm, Kleinrivier, it was laid out in 1856. Today Stanford is the centre of a lovely fynbos and wheat farming district and boasts many fine old buildings. Seventeen kilometres to the east is Salmonsdam Nature Reserve with its flowering wild plants, small game species and mountain viewpoint.
