Rear-Admiral Sir Robert Lambert, commander of the Cape Station from 1820 to 1821, gave his name to Lambert's Bay. It is the harbour for a large fishing fleet and the site of important fish processing and lobster canning factories. During the lobster season hundreds of small rowing boats leave the harbour for the fishing grounds several kilometres along the open coast.
Connected to the harbour by concrete pier is Bird Island with its colonies of gannets and cormorants, wide variety of other sea birds and penguins. In great numbers the birds can be inspected at very close quarter. The guano yield from the tiny island is over 300 tons annually.

Directions on How to Get There
Take the N7 from Cape Town to Clanwilliam. At Clanwilliam, take the turn off to Clanwilliam/Lamberts Bay. At the T-junction, turn left to Lamberts Bay. Entering Lamberts Bay, follow the signboard and take the 2nd turn-off to the right into Tollie Street. At the T-junction turn left into Riedeman Street. We are the 4th house on the left hand side, number 24. Look out for the big palm trees.
