Location : Gansbaai Description : Saxon Lodge is a boutique hotel situated in Gansbaai, the world's Great White Shark capital, in the Western Cape, a short, beautiful, 2 hour drive from Cape Town and Cape Town International airport and an hour from L'Agulhas, the southern-most tip of Africa. This makes Saxon Lodge a great central point for exploring the Cape Overberg and its natural bounty. The lodge was established 10 years ago and was bought and taken over by Dave and Caron in July 2011. It perches majestically above the Gansbaai Harbour providing guests with the opportunity to observe a working harbour in action as trawler boats leave and return with their catch. The lodge boasts 9 spacious en-suite rooms, most of which have private view verandas with great sea views. All the rooms have just been repainted and individually redecorated to create a tranquil and restful ambiance "a home from home" feeling. We have double and twin rooms and 2 family suites for families or groups travelling together. A private, well stocked residents' bar and restaurant provides privacy and exclusivity for guests to enjoy and share their experiences and space with each other. Other facilities include a plunge pool, central lounge with large format TV, FREE WIFI, ample parking and a viewing deck with spectacular views over Walker Bay and the Overberg mountains. It is commonplace to see the Southern Right Whales frolicking in the bay during their season here and the sunsets are something to behold!! Accommodation: There are nine suites able to accommodate 22 people Albatross Upstairs double suite with lounge and double en-suite bathroom. Our flagship room with the hint of Africa and private view veranda providing views over Walker bay and the Overberg mountains. Beachcomber One of 2 family suites. Beachcomber has a double bedroom en-suite, twin beds in an open plan lounge area. Freshly decorated in light blues and whites gives this room a happy holiday feeling. Sea-facing with own view veranda. Dolphin A twin en-suite bedroom upstairs with separate lounge downstairs and private view veranda. Dolphin is practical and provides private space for travellers to unwind and relax. Southern Cross A double en-suite bedroom upstairs with separate lounge downstairs and private view veranda. A double storey unit with beautiful photographic images and comfortable lounge to unwind in. Crystic A luxury 2 bedroom apartment with 2 double bedrooms en-suite, the main with a stunning sea view. A third small bedroom area off the main bedroom has a single bed. Crystic has a large private lounge and veranda with stunning views across the harbour and bay. Ideal for families or groups travelling together. A private penthouse home for your holiday! Da Gama A very cosy and well appointed double bedroom with en-suite shower room, and lounge area. Da Gama has limited sea-views. A room to retire to after a day in the water or on the road! Campbell A large comfortable twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and separate lounge area. No sea view. Practical, fresh and fun to return to after a day travelling. Protea A delightful homely double bedroom/ bedsitter with a separate dressing room and en-suite shower room. No sea view. A space to be peaceful in...and just relax! Nautilus Our economy room, tucked away at the entrance of the lodge. Twin beds, a small lounge with 3rd bedsitter and en-suite shower room. Sleeps a maximum of 3 people. Our guests report that a single day's stay is not enough, so come and stay for longer and we will make sure that you have more than enough to keep you occupied. Go through Somerset West, and over Sir Lowry's Pass. (Stunning views from this mountain pass!) Turn off the N2 at the Hermanus/Botrivier turnoff onto the R43 (40kms from Somerset West) Drive through Hermanus, staying on the main road. (The main road through the built up area of Hermanus is about 12 Km long from start to end). Once you are out of the central town area proceed through Voelklip and at the circle proceed on the R43 towards Gansbaai. Do not speed. You will pass Stanford, a small village on your right, 20 kms after Hermanus. 20kms from Stanford, you will enter Gansbaai. Gansbaai is a small town with no robots (traffic lights); Cross over the first two (2) stop streets in the main road. At the third (3rd) stop street, turn right into FABRIEK STREET. (Look for our Saxon Lodge sign at the stop sign, at this intersection). Cross over 2 intersections in Fabriek Street, the 2nd one being a stop street. At the very next street (3rd intersection), turn right into MULLER STREET (Again, look for our Saxon Lodge sign). Saxon Lodge is directly in front of you at the end of a short cul-de-sac. Park your vehicle in the parking area outside the lodge and enter through the internal parking area. The front door is on the left, next to the garages.
