The best known of of the Cape Dutch homesteads, commodious Groot Constantia stands on the site of the country home of Simon van der Stel, perhaps the best known of the Dutch governors and certainly the most effective. The farm Constantia, much larger than it is today was presented to van der Stel by the visiting commissioner, H.A. van Rheede tot Drakenstein, Lord of Mydrecht, in 1685, as a reward for van der Stel's Service and was probably named after the Commissioner's daughter, Constantia.

Description :
Summit Place Guesthouse is located in the scenic Constantia Valley, surrounded by the world heritage site, Table Mountain Reserve. Constantia Valley is steeped in history dating back to 1685 when the natural beauty, good soils and fine climate made this an ideal location for the Cape's oldest wine farm, Groot Constantia. The rich tapestry of Constantia's history includes Boer War spies and Constantia wine in the cellars of Napoleon.
Within easy walking distance of Summit Place is Constantia's Wine Route with world class restaurants, wine tasting and cellar tours. Nature lovers will enjoy the nearby Tokai forest and walking trails in Silvermine Nature Reserve, where a short trail amongst endemic fynbos flora reveals a panoramic view stretching from False Bay to Cape Point. Constantia Valley offers 18 hole golf, scenic cycling routes and the southern gate of world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
The upmarket Constantia Retail Mall is a two minute drive from this constantia accommodation and within a 15 minute beach-seekers can enjoy Hout Bay Beach at the base of Chapmans Peak, horse ride on Noordhoek 'Long' Beach, swim with African Penguins at Boulders Beach or enjoy an African sunset at Llandudno Beach.
A short drive takes you to Muizenberg Beach, where the gentle break offers aspirant surfers the opportunity to learn the art of surfing at a choice of schools. Cape Point Nature Reserve, Ferry Trips to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, Two Oceans Aquarium, Township Tours, Table Mountain Cableway, World of Birds, Rhodes Memorial are popular activities our visitors enjoy, all within 20 minutes drive from Summit Place.
Summit Place suites offer Percale linen, hairdryers, heated towel rails, TV & DVD facilities and under floor heating in our premium rooms. Rooms have shared DSTV & MNET. Wi-Fi and cabled internet is free and laundry services are available on site. Our large pool is surrounded by a wonderful sunbathing area and lush garden with swings and a trampoline for the children. A big screen theatre is available in the cellar for TV or DVD's. The property is secure and well protected.

Accommodation:
Garden Cottage:
Twin or king beds in spacious double room which leads onto the private patio, bathroom includes separate wash stands and separate bath and shower. Kitchen is fully fitted including fridge/freezer, washing machine and four plate stove and oven. The lounge with three seat table and large couches is spacious and comfortable with patio doors leading out to the four seat wooden table. Both rooms and patio look onto the large quiet garden.
Garden Studio:
Twin beds, an en-suite shower, and writing desk, tea & coffee making facilities and patio doors leading onto the patio & garden. This room can inter lead to the lounge of the Garden Cottage if hired with the Garden Cottage. This is not a self catering room unless hired in conjunction with the Garden Cottage.
Grand Terrace Suite:
A large warm spacious room with twin or king beds and a sleeper couch. Coffee table, table and chairs for eating/working, en suite private bathroom with separate shower & bath and fully equipped kitchenette, 4 plate stove & oven, microwave, bar fridge, toaster etc. Patio doors lead onto the balcony with seating area overlooking the sparkling pool and the mountains.
Terrace Suite:
A warm room with twin or king beds, couch, coffee table & writing desk, en-suite private bathroom with separate bath and shower and a fully equipped kitchenette, 4 plate stove & oven, microwave, bar fridge, toaster etc. Patio doors lead onto the balcony with caf?tyle seating overlooking a sparkling pool and the mountains.
Mountain Terrace Suite:
A large corner room with mountain views on two sides. Twin or king beds, couch & coffee table, writing desk, fully equipped kitchenette, 4 plate stove & oven, microwave, bar fridge, toaster etc, en suite bathroom with shower.
Pool Side Master Suite:
King bed within an expansive room with a lounge suite. The room leads out to the pool and is flanked by a peaceful garden. It has a walk in wardrobe, en suite bathroom with separate wash stands, sunken bath, walk in shower and additional outside shower within a garden alcove. (Wheel Chair Friendly)
Pool Side Doubles:
These bright and spacious doubles with lovely pool and garden views are accessed by their shared passage but also lead directly out onto the pool area. They each have an en suite bathroom, desk & chair, T.V., D.V.D. player, hairdryer, safe and tea & coffee making facilities.
