Nesting under 'Soetmuisberg' and surrounded by rolling wheat and barley fields lies the little town of Napier. Founded in 1838 and named after Sir George Napier, who was governor of the Cape at the time, this village of old world charmhas tranquil appeal. In timesgone by, Napier's main craftsmen were blacksmiths tending to the many carts of the district. These days the village celebrates its past with an annual Horse and Cart Festival.
Description : Welcome to the Sunbird Lodge and Fynbos Reserve, a nature lovers paradise, where you will be treated to unparalleled views of the Southern Overberg from our mountainside retreat.
We cater especially for those wanting a complete break from the hustle and bustle of modern life. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the exceptional view; to take a walk or hike through the fynbos; or do a bit of bird watching. Perhaps you would prefer to catch up on some reading or quiet contemplation. This is the place to do it.
Napier is a wonderfully central spot from which to explore this fascinating part of the Cape. The wonderful coastline from Hermanus through Gansbaai, L'Agulhas, Struisbaai, Arniston and de Hoop, with its craggy cliffs and sandy beaches is renowned for having some of the finest land and boat based whale watching in the world.
Elim, Genadendal, Greyton, Caledon and Swellendam are all steeped in the history of this region and all of these towns and places are an easy drive from your base at the Sunbird Lodge and Fynbos Reserve.
Whether you will be hiking, walking or driving don't forget to order a delicious
picnic hamper to take with you.
While you may want to use the well-appointed kitchen to cater for yourselves, a healthy continental breakfast, consisting of a selection of cereals, fruit, muffins and a selection of cold meats is available. We will be happy to oblige. In the evenings when you return from exploring the surrounding countryside we will be delighted to prepare a traditional braai or potjie for your enjoyment or you can do it yourself.
You will find our rates to be very easy on the pocket.

Accommodation :
ERICA is a fully equipped thatched roof cottage which has a comfortable double bed (bedding and towels provided) and en suite bathroom with shower. There is accommodation for two guests.
RESTIO is a newly built, tastefully decorated, fully equipped, self-catering unit with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Comprising a main bedroom with double bed and cosy wood burning stove / fireplace. Double doors lead onto a romantic boardwalk with outside braai. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower; and kitchen with unique, comfortable 'hide-away' bunk beds for two children.

Tariff :
Erica: ZAR265 per person for the 1st night and thereafter ZAR215 per person per night.
Restio: ZAR300 per person per night 1st night and thereafter ZAR265 per person per night.
Children under the age of fifteen ZAR10 per each year of age, per night.
Payment Policy:
A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable on confirmation of the reservation and the balance is payable on arrival.

Directions on How to Get There From Cape Town take the N2 through Caledon to Napier At the Dutch Reformed Church turn right into Kerk Street. Below the school turn left. Turn right and travel out of town past the cemetery. Travel for about 2.4km until you reach the Sunbird sign. Follow the sign.
Activities : The Grootbos Hiking Trail starts at Sunbird Lodge. We will arrange guided fynbos and bird watching tours. One to ten day tours can be arranged within the area.
