VOEGELGEZANG FISHING CABIN

De Mond Nature Reserve, which was proclaimed in 1986, is situated roughly mid way between Arniston and Struisbaai at the mouth of the Heuningnes River. The area is frequented by nature lovers and fishermen alike.
Description : This is a magnificently isolated rustic cabin nestled in the dunes overlooking the pristine de Mond Nature Reserve coastline. It is surrounded by 600 hectares of un-occupied fynbos and milkwood thickets offering fantastic walks and mountain bike rides for nature enthusiasts. A one kilometer walk through the dunes will take you to a long isolated stretch of beach that boasts some of the best surf fishing in the Western Cape.
The Fishing Cabin is situated on a private farm, Vogelgezang (Bird-song) next to de Mond Nature Reserve. The farm is 29km from Bredasdorp between Arniston and Cape Agulhas (Southernmost tip of Africa) and only two hours drive from Cape Town.
de Mond, the mouth of the Heunings River, is a very well recognised salt-water fly and bait fishing estuary.
Accommodation :
* The cabin accommodates four people comfortably and -
* Can take up to seven.
* There are seven single beds and mattresses.
* Crockery and cutlery are provided.
* There is a gas bar fridge,
* 2 plate cooker,
* Paraffin lamps.
* There is no electricity.
* There is a built-in braai
* Toilet and shower (solar bags for hot water.
* You need 4x4 access for the last 100 meters.
* Bring your own bedding, blitz, food, cleaning and ablution materials.
Tariff: From 1/11/2009 – 31/10/2010
ZAR550 per night (with a supplementary charge ZAR90 per person per night over 4 in number)
A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable on booking .

Directions on How to Get There From Bredasdorp:
Take the Arniston / Waenhuiskrans road towards Arniston. Follow this road for approximately 10km. After Nacht Waht homestead, which is on the left hand side of the road, turn right onto a gravel road. (the sign reads "de Mond / Struisbaai / Agulhas") Follow this road for 5km and pass through the Prinskraal farmstead. Soon after Prinskraal the Struisbaai road joins in from the right. DO NOT take this right turn. Follow straight on to de Mond. Approximately 5km further on from Prinskraal you will reach Vogelgezang farmstead on the right hand side. From the farm house to the cabin:
Exit the farmstead and carry on for approximately 2.5km. You will come to the gate between two stone walls on the left hand side of the road. Use the key to open the gate. Make sure you close and lock the gate. Carry on along the main farm track for approximately 3km. You will come to a sharp right hand bend in the road. Follow this through the dunes and up to the cabin. It is advisable to use a bakkie or 4X4
