The drive from Gordon's Bay along the coast to Rooi Els follows a most spectacular course of natural beauty; one minute you are motoring high above the waves of the ocean and the next you are descending to the very shores of the beach. Fishermen say this is without doubt the finest rock angling coast of the whole of the Western Cape and they agree that it is also the most dangerous. The danger arises from the sudden surge of the water up the rocks and the deadly backwash. Recognised fishing spots have been marked with life -buoys.
Description : The scenic R44 road winds along the Eastern edge of False Bay into the Koegelberg Biosphere Reserve and the quiet seaside village of Rooi Els. Here, midway between Cape Town and Hermanus and in the very heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, you will find Wonderlings, sandwiched between the sea and fynbos-clad mountains. A warm welcome awaits from Koos and Jenny, who are ready to share the wonders of this natural environment with their guests.
A private entrance leads onto a sweeping staircase that takes one up to the two luxury guest suites on the upper level of this modern architect-designed home. All rooms are sunny, spacious and airy; tastefully furnished in modern style, with stunning views from every window.
The north-facing rooms are flooded with sunshine all year round and all south facing rooms have skylights to let in natural light. Both suites have DSTV (satellite TV) and it is a bonus to have basket bound breakfasts delivered to your suite, for you to enjoy at leisure. Yoghurt, muesli and muffins are all scrumptiously home-made and are one of the many discreet personal touches that abound.
The sea is beautiful and the beach is safe - but the sea is not just for swimming. Make sure you are first in line for one of Koos' "catch-and-cook-your-own-crayfish" canoeing trips. Or if you prefer, Jenny will happily apply her culinary skills to cooking your crayfish to perfection!
Accommodation : The Protea Suite is often used as a honeymoon hideaway, with its king size bed with fresh white linen and loads of pillows. There is an en suite bath with shower attachment, a separate lounge with easy chairs and a sleeper couch and a fully-equipped, open-plan kitchen. Large sliding doors open onto a small balcony overlooking Koos' immaculate garden and the breathtaking views beyond. Ideally accommodates two but can accommodate an extra two on the sleeper couch. Complimentary tea and coffee. The Restio Suite consists of a double bed looking out onto the sea - in a large room with two easy chairs and a sleeper-couch. There is an en suite shower and a small, fully-equipped kitchenette. The large, partly covered balcony also houses a built-in braai and is sheltered from the South-Easterly winds that prevail in the summer months. Ideally accommodates two but can accommodate an extra single on the sleeper couch. Complimentary tea and coffee.

Directions on How to Get There
From Cape Town:
Take the N2 east towards Somerset West. At Somerset West stay on the N2 and travel for 8km past a Shell service station on your right to the turnoff marked R44 Kleinmond/Gordons Bay. Turn right and continue until you reach a T-junction. Turn left - the sign says Rooi Els. You are now on the most beautiful strech of road and should allow time to enjoy it! Continue along the R44 coastal road for 21km until you reach the Rooi Els estuary. 500 metres beyond the bridge as you round the bend, turn left onto a gravel road. Follow the signs to Wonderlings B&B
From the Garden Route:
Take the N2 east towards Cape Town. At Botrivier take the offramp No 92 to Hermanus/Botrivier. Turn left on the R43 and travel towards Hermanus. Turn right at the R44 Kleinmond. Travel through Kleinmond, Betty's Bay and Pringle Bay for about 47km. Continue until you reach Rooi Els. Drive carefully down the hill and follow the signs to Wonderlings B&B on the right.
