The little town of Ladismith, with its Victorian era houses, lies in a superb setting at the foot of the western end of the Swartberg, beneath the towering peaks of Toorkop and Toringberg, Named after the beautiful Spanish-born wife of Governor Sir Harry Smith. Ladismith shared the ostrich feather boom of the 1800s and early 1900s and suffered severely when the crash came in 1914. Today Ladismith is the centre of a farming district that produces dairy products, fruit, lucerne and ostriches.

Description : Rietfontein is a working fruit farm, 12km on a dirt road off the R62, between Barrydale and Ladismith and nestled against the southern foothills of the Touwsberg Mountains, in the Little Karoo.
An ideal getaway for nature lovers and hikers with abundant small game, bird life and flora.
In the absence of grid power, enjoy romantic candlelit evenings, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. If required, lighting is available from a solar charged battery system. Paraffin lanterns are also supplied.
For those who just want to relax and unwind, recline at the pool taking in the healthy Karoo air and enjoy God's wonderful creation. The pool pump is solar powered, one of the few installed in the Western Cape.
The Little Karoo is classified as the Succulent Karoo, which falls under the Karoo-Namib plant region.
The distinctive characteristic of this area is its predominance of dwarf shrubs with succulent leaves. This sub region has the richest concentration of succulent plants in the world.
Accommodation :There are three self-catering guest cottages;
One sleeping 6 (1 double bed, 2 single beds and 2 sleeper couches.)
The other two cottages each sleep 5 (1 double bed, 2 single beds and 1 sleeper couch)
Each cottage comprises an open plan kitchen/lounge,two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The annex sleeps 6.
We supply all bedding, towels and kitchen equipment.

Directions on How to Get There
On Route 62, 45km from Barrydale and 33km from Ladismith take the Plathuis turn off. Travel for 4km and turn right. Travel 2.5km to Wolwefontein then a further 3.5km to Reitfontein.
