The streets of Durban will be teaming with runners wearing pink event t-shirts (compliments of Nike) and ‘running for life’ in support of PinkDrive at the annual Totalsports Women’s Race on Sunday, 16 July 2017.
“The Totalsports Women’s Race is a fun and healthy way in which to get our message across that early detection saves lives,” says Janice Benecke, PinkDrive KZN Administrator. “We love being part of the event. We wish that there were more races as they increase awareness in the community as a whole. Everybody loved the event in 2016. It was vibrant and festive. The camaraderie amongst the runners was amazing, with PinkDrive being really well supported. There were even two men dressed in pink tutu’s and wigs.”
“The Totalsports Women’s Race encourages women of all ages to follow a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise and a healthy diet,” continues Benecke. “Both are really important for cancer survivors. Being a survivor myself we really need to work on our strength and fitness as one goes through so much which makes us weak. The Totalsports Women’s Race is a fun and social way to exercise. PinkDrive’s mobile unit will be present on event day. We will be doing free breast examinations and education. We will also give a talk on stage educating the participant regarding breast cancer and showing how to do your own examinations. Don’t miss the PinkDrive stand both at race pack collection and on event day. Runners are encouraged to bring their wallets, show support and help us get our message across.”
“We believe sport has the power to change lives.” says Charmaine Claasens, Head of Totalsports Marketing. “The Totalsports Women’s Race provides us with the opportunity to encourage a healthier lifestyle through running. PinkDrive shares our passion for encouraging women of all ages to run or walk for life, while the Totalsports Women’s Race provides a great platform to raise awareness for breast cancer. We encourage all entrants to run for more than a personal best at this year’s Totalsports Women’s Race in support of Pink Drive.”
